Critics for the movie “Alexander”

After presentation the Oliver Stone’s movie, “Alexander”, there were many reactions among the public and the most lauded ones were the Greeks. Several critics in America have already accepted the reaction from Daniel Macedon. That kind of example is David Edelstein, who says: “Many readers (some of them Greek, some classics scholars) dispute the line above that Alexander muddles Macedonians with Greeks, pointing out that Hellenic culture and myth-both of were regularly invoked by Alexander-are Greek and not Macedonian legacies. I admit, that a heated letter, sent to many critics, evidently by an indignant Macedonian, swayed me. I shall leave Greeks (who have suggested I’ve committed a blood libel), Macedonians, scholars, and other interested parties to fight it out in the Fray”.

PRESIDENT CRVENKOVSKI'S ADDRESS AT 50TH ATA GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION

Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski Thursday in the frameworks of his visit to Rome is to meet his Italian counterpart Carlo Azelio Champi.
The presidents will talk about the relations between both counties, especially in the sphere of economy, regional cooperation and Italy's support for realization of the regional initiatives for cooperation and infrastructural projects (Corridor 8).
Crvenkovski and Champi will also have talks on strengthening the cooperation in combating organized crime and terrorism, illegal drugs and weapons smuggling.
"Expectations are that NATO will continue with its enlargement towards Southeastern Europe, including the Adriatic Charter countries," Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski said Wednesday in Rome at the 50th session of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) General Assembly.
"Wide political, interethnic and social consensus in Macedonia gives constant support of the country's commitment to join NATO. Macedonia, which is a step from this historical achievement, will keep generating stability and democracy in the wider region, taking greater responsibility in the still fragile neighborhood," Crvenkovski said.
In his speech, Crvenkovski referred to the developments in Macedonia in the last three years, saying that the country, with the citizens' support, has managed to avoid full-scale interethnic conflict and to return on the right track - to institutions and democratic procedures.
"In the meantime, no relevant ruling or opposition party in Macedonia has not offered a sustainable alternative to the Framework Agreement. Macedonian citizens are aware of the obligation - each of us to respect the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty as the most precious value, and to develop the culture of dialogue in order to contribute to transforming and preparing of Macedonia for its integration with the Euro-Atlantic institutions," Crvenkovski said.
He gave credit to Macedonian citizens for proving their maturity on the referendum day, when vast majority voted for stable, multiethnic and unitary state.
"Only few days after the referendum, leaders of main political parties in the country, on my initiative, signed a Declaration on the country's strategic goals and expressed political will to preserve the wide consensus, necessary for realization of the Euro-Atlantic perspective of Macedonia," Crvenkovski said.
Referring to regional cooperation, Crvenkovski said that Macedonia's commitment to better understanding among Balkan nations was a driving power of the initiative that resulted in the Adriatic Charter.
"Albanian, Croatian Presidents and our NATO partners are witnesses that for the last 18 months the Charter has become the core of our efforts to promoting peace and stability in Western Balkans. We are aware that no country is capable to defend democracy by itself, so we are seeking our place in the Euro-Atlantic community of nations. NATO progressive concept for integration of all parts of Europe offers possibility for countries to contribute in their best manner to achieving of the mutual goal," Crvenkovski said.
He expressed Macedonia's firm commitment to take part in this historical project, pointing out that the country's soldiers have been sharing the great burden for building better future to recently liberated citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Crvenkovski said that Macedonia was looking forward to the next NATO Summit, expressing belief that the country has sufficient time to complete the necessary reforms for NATO membership.
During his stay in Rome, Crvenkovski will meet his Croatian and Albanian counterparts Stipe Mesic and Alfred Moisiu. The three Presidents will also have a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
Crvenkovski is also scheduled to meet his Italian counterpart Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
